About Spring Creek Community Church
1. Our mission statement, “Reaching people where they are and
leading each on the journey to become fully devoted
Christ-followers.
2. I suppose the beginnings of Spring Creek started back in 1984
at Liberty University. While working on my B.S. degree God seemed to
put the notion of starting a church in my home town in Terre Haute,
Indiana. An assignment given by one of my professors was to develop a
preliminary plan of planting a hypothetical church in a town in the
United States. I chose Terre Haute. But as I worked through this
assignment, I quickly began to realize there was more to this than
just an assignment, I sensed God was trying to tell me that He wanted
me to go back and actually start a church. Little did I know that
within five years and a path only God could have laid out that Spring
Creek became a reality. In January of 1989 Spring Creek, known as
Bethel Baptist Church (we changed the name in 1998) held its first
worship in the renovated garage and house of Gary and Kaye Blackburn
with about 25 adults and children. In June of 1991 roughly 50 people
worshipped for the first time in a newly built building on Marquette
Avenue. In 2004, after much prayer, we made the decision to purchase a
larger facility and eventually move the congregation to the building
located at 800 E. Haythorne Avenue. The building needed major
renovation to serve as a church since it was previously a go-cart
racing barn. With the Lord's help and a people with a mind to
work (Nehemiah 4:6 "So build we the wall; and all the wall was joined
together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work") we
moved into the renovated building in December 2006 after selling the
property on Marquette Avenue. Renovation is on going but the
added space has blessed us with many new classrooms and a
multi-purpose area that can be used as a gymnasium for our youth.
We praise our Lord Jesus Christ for the realization of this vision.
(Proverbs 29:18 "Where there is no vision, the people will perish.")
